Is there someone who can explain this from the eBay side? You are supposed to wait until the bid is over before looking elsewhere for the same item.
You are not supposed to commit to buying another one from the same seller or a different seller. If you bid on one item, that is a contractual obligation to buy the item, even if you are outbid.
If the highest bidder drops out, the next highest bidder ends up being the winner of the auction. You should not bid on one item, and agree to buy another one, unless the first auction has finished. Thank you for this information, but I can't see how it relates to the specific issue I described and the problems I presented.
It explains none of them, since none of the different scenarios you mention happened in my case. Not even one.
Not a commitment to buy, but an offer I could choose to decline with a click. I didn't end up being the winner of the auction. To sum it up, your information is very valuable but it's general. It doesn't explain what happened to me, nor does it explain the problematic situation with the cart many buyers experience.
After I see it I go nope and delete it from my cart. Hours later I'm told to pay for it??? Turn on suggestions. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type. Showing results for. Show only Search instead for. Did you mean:.

In my mind, "Commit To Buy" means I am promising to buy and pay for an item. Ask a Question. Type your question here Write the seller and tell them you made a mistake about the shipping, and ask them to cancel the item. Most sellers will comply, because it's an honest mistake. They will send a request to cancel, you accept and their fees are refunded to them so they can list it again.
In addition some sellers may elect to block you as a buyer if you have 2 or more strikes within, one year. But if this is your first strike, nothing will happen at all. Just pay attention next time. They will not be happy that you weren't serious about buying their item, wasted their time and money, and prevented anyone else from using the listing to purchase the item.
I did did contact the seller and they have agreed to cancel. All very quick and polite. However this experience will certainly stop me even looking at items that do not show a shipping cost. I find it unbelievable that you are "committed" before even knowing the price of shipping.
Wait, don't leave, we are glad to have you here! Yes, it is uncomfortable when something doesn't work the way you first expected it too. BUT -- ebay has stuff nobody else does, just because there are so many sellers with such different items. You can put something in a cart and never come back, for example. It started as only auctions. Have you ever been at a Going, Going, Gone type auction?
